A new explosion was reported in Lahore, Pakistan, in the Punjab province. According to Al-Jazeera, local police stated that an Indian drone was shot down near Walton Road.
Meta, the parent company of Instagram, has blocked Indian users from accessing the pages of a prominent Muslim news site on the social media platform. This is due to the escalating hostility between India and Pakistan.
Security sources in Pakistan, who remained unnamed, reported that the Pakistani military shot down five Indian aircraft early this week. The sources described it as one of the “largest and longest aerial battles” in recent history.
Flight operations were temporarily suspended at three airports in Pakistan. According to Reuters, the temporary suspension occurred at Karachi, Lahore, and Sialkot airports in Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Dawn News Pakistan reported that the Neelum-Jhelum Hydroelectric Project (NJHP), located near Muzaffarabad in Kashmir managed by Pakistan, was targeted by Indian attacks. The Deputy Commissioner of Muzaffarabad confirmed damage to the “intake gates and hydraulic protection unit.”
Businesses were closed, and streets were deserted in the Indian-administered border city of Kashmir. Indian news outlet Reuters reported that Indian security personnel were seen stationed at street intersections in those cities with relatively heavy traffic flow.
The National Assembly of Pakistan is preparing to convene to discuss the increasing tensions with India. The assembly described India’s attempts to link Pakistan to the Pahalgam attack as “baseless” and the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty as a “blatant violation.”
The Indian government stated on Thursday that 13 civilians were killed by Pakistani firing in violation of the ceasefire along their de facto border since Wednesday. The Indian Foreign Ministry reported that all fatalities occurred in the city of Poonch, with 59 others injured, mostly in the same city.
A soldier was also killed in Poonch on Wednesday during firing by the Pakistani Army, bringing the total confirmed deaths on the Indian side to 14.
Pakistan reported that 31 civilians were killed by Indian firing along the border. As of now, there have been no further updates on the situation.
