President Prabowo Subianto is optimistic about Indonesia’s ability to achieve net-zero carbon emissions on schedule, positioning the country as a pioneer in this milestone. Speaking during a video conference on renewable energy development and oil production expansion in East Java, Prabowo underscored Indonesia’s capacity to produce energy efficiently and streamline logistics chains, reducing costs. Energy independence is essential to Indonesia’s vision of national sovereignty, with plans to launch 55 new renewable energy projects, including geothermal power plants, to provide clean, reliable, and efficient energy throughout the archipelago.
Acknowledging the support of ministries, regulators, and energy companies like Medco Energi and ExxonMobil, President Prabowo praised the collective effort towards Indonesia’s energy transformation. Despite the country’s substantial oil and gas reserves, the emphasis is on renewable energy, specifically solar power, to ensure energy self-sufficiency for communities nationwide. Prabowo sees solar energy as a beacon of hope for villages, districts, regencies, and remote islands, paving the way for a brighter and sustainable future through renewable energy sources.
