Ade Armando, politisi PSI, lately attracted public attention after being appointed as a commissioner at PT PLN Nusantara Power (PLN NP), a subsidiary of the state-owned company PT PLN. This appointment sparked various reactions, prompting the public to delve into Ade’s career history and background. Before venturing into politics, Ade was a journalist and once taught as a lecturer at a prestigious university in Indonesia. Ade Armando, a member of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), previously worked as a lecturer at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at the University of Indonesia (UI). He holds a bachelor’s degree from UI in 1988, pursued a master’s degree at Florida State University in the United States, and completed his doctoral program at UI in 2006. Ade’s media career began in the 1980s, where he was part of the editorial team at Jurnal Prisma, later becoming an editor at LP3ES and a senior editor at Republika daily newspaper.
Apart from his media roles, Ade served as Media Research Manager at Taylor Nelson Sofres, a market research company, and as Director at Media Watch and Consumer Center. Additionally, he led the Communication Science Undergraduate Program at FISIP UI from 2001 to 2003 and played a part in formulating crucial regulations. Ade was a member of the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) from 2004 to 2007 and contributed to drafting the Broadcasting Bill and Anti-Pornography Bill.
In 2022 and 2023, Ade decided to transition from being a lecturer at UI to actively engaging in politics by joining PSI. This marked a turning point in his career trajectory. Ade became the party’s spokesperson, participating in various public forums and media platforms. He even ran as a legislative candidate for the Indonesian House of Representatives from Jakarta II electoral district in the 2024 elections, despite not securing a seat.
A strong supporter of President Joko Widodo, Ade aligns his views with the government’s policies. His presence in PSI aims to rejuvenate the party, especially among youth and intellectuals. Ade is actively involved in party activities and often represents PSI in public, strengthening the party’s voice.
